About the Authors
Following graduation from Yale Divinity school, Mary and Tom served as Episcopal priests in large, urban parishes, chiefly engaged in pastoral care and counseling, education, and spiritual direction. Prior to theological school, Tom was a teacher of interpersonal communications, and later opened a counseling practice. Mary was co-owner of a vocational rehabilitation business, and co-founder and then director of the first battered women’s shelter in Maine. For the past 16 years, the Cushmans have worked as private practice counselors in Portland, Maine. Mary and Tom individually weathered a lot of personal, relationship heartache before entering into their current marriage of thirty years. They’ve now taken their lived experience – as professionals, as individuals, and as a couple – and translated it into Riding the Passionate Edge.
